Behind every great project is a strong relationship — and that’s exactly where our Business Development team comes in.
As we continue to grow, our business development function brings together experience from across construction, energy and infrastructure to help connect the right people, ideas and opportunities. The team works closely with our delivery businesses from the earliest stages, building trusted partnerships and setting projects up for success long before work begins on site.
Leading the team is Dan Whitmore, recently appointed General Manager Business Development - National Markets, who brings together business development activity across the Group while keeping a strong focus on relationships, collaboration and long-term value.
Dan Whitmore brings a broad mix of leadership, commercial and industry experience to his role leading Symal Group’s Business Development team.
Before joining Symal, Dan worked in senior business development roles within the construction industry, leading operations across the East Coast. Earlier in his career, he ran his own consultancy for more than 10 years, including a three-year stint with the Brisbane Broncos where he established and led their B2B Networking Group — inspired by similar models used by AFL clubs in Melbourne.
Based in our Eight Mile Plains office in Queensland, Dan’s role is all about building a connected, forward-thinking business development team across the Group, with a particular focus on Queensland and New South Wales.
“For me, it’s about bringing people together and being proactive,” Dan said. “When we align our relationships, knowledge and experience, we create better opportunities for our clients and for the Group as a whole.”
Dan was already familiar with Symal, having crossed paths with the business many times in previous roles.
“There’s a real energy here,” he said. “Symal has a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a clear direction. It’s exciting to be part of a business that’s growing quickly but still values how it works with people.”
Rob Mazniovski has more than 10 years’ experience in the energy sector and has been instrumental in growing Symal’s presence across energy and renewables.
Over the past three years, Rob has built strong working relationships with Australia’s leading energy providers, developers and tier-one contractors. His focus is on early engagement across wind, solar, battery and critical energy infrastructure projects — helping position Symal as a trusted partner from the outset.
With over 15 years’ experience in business development across Northern New South Wales, Ned Shanahan is known for his strong local connections and long-standing industry relationships.
Ned works closely with clients and delivery teams to support complex infrastructure projects, with a focus on understanding what clients need early and building partnerships that last. He’s highly active in the communities he works in and values relationships built on trust and consistency.
Nathan Lacey brings more than 25 years of hands-on experience in the civil construction industry to his business development role at Unyte.
Based in Geelong, Nathan works across Victoria and regularly supports projects in New South Wales and South Australia. He’s known for spotting opportunities early, maintaining strong client relationships and working closely with delivery teams to help projects run smoothly from day one.
A trusted and familiar face across the industry, Nathan has built long-standing relationships with tier-one contractors, specialist subcontractors and small businesses alike.
Clinton Pattinson joined Symal in April 2025 as Business Development Manager – National Markets, bringing more than 20 years’ experience across engineering consulting and business development.
Clinton began his career with VicRoads before spending several years in London with Hyder Consulting. After returning to Melbourne, he continued with the business through its transition to Arcadis, working across leadership, operations and business development roles.
At Symal, Clinton focuses on national opportunities across sectors including sport and recreation, health, education, ports and maritime, aviation and data centres, helping expand the Group’s footprint across Australia.
Together, the Business Development team plays a key role in connecting clients, partners and delivery teams across the Group. With a shared focus on relationships, early engagement and doing things the right way, the team is helping shape the next chapter of Symal Group’s growth.
