Standing with the Mount Mercer community

Over the weekend, Victoria experienced devastating fires that left visible damage across the land — but the deeper impact was felt in the hearts of the communities and volunteers who stood on the frontline.

Working closely with Jamie McKenzie, Dave Stephens and others from ICC Geelong, our teams helped deliver practical resources to assist with the ongoing disaster relief effort.

In the days that followed, locals, responders and volunteers came together at the Mount Mercer CFA for a community catch-up. It was a chance to pause after an incredibly tough few days, to speak openly about the pressure and stress they’d endured, and to begin the process of healing together.

“As an Australian, and as part of Symal, I’m proud we could play a small role and simply be there to listen, support, and stand alongside people in the aftermath.” says Cameron Healy, Executive General Manager, Symal Contractors.

For Symal, alongside the Unyte and Sycle teams, being welcomed into that space was genuinely humbling. It wasn’t about delivering a solution or ticking a box — it was about showing up, listening and supporting the people who had given so much to protect their community.

A sincere thank you to everyone who stepped up on the day to fire up the barbecue and help bring people together. There were no speeches or formalities — just shared experiences, honest conversations and a strong sense of togetherness.

What we witnessed was a powerful reminder of what truly underpins Australia: sacrifice, mateship and volunteerism. The Mount Mercer community and CFA embody these values, and their resilience, generosity and strength were evident in every interaction.

We’re proud to stand alongside communities like Mount Mercer — not just during moments of crisis, but in the quieter moments that follow, when connection and support matter most.
