Unyte delivered the civil construction works for the Avalon Precinct, laying the foundations for a new operational hub supporting the continued growth of the Symal Group.

Transforming a 160,000 square metre site on Beach Road into a fully operational precinct was never going to be a small job.

The project called on Unyte’s experience delivering complex civil works, with the team completing bulk earthworks, pavements, drainage, hardstands and finishing works alongside Incore Developments, builders and project stakeholders.

Unyte got straight into the major works, moving more than 63,000 cubic metres of material to shape the site and creating the foundations for a precinct built to support heavy vehicle movements, equipment storage and day-to-day operations.

As the precinct began to take shape, Unyte delivered more than 55,000 square metres of crushed concrete hardstand for civil machinery, equipment and material storage, more than 4,000 cubic metres of heavy-duty concrete pavement across workshop and warehouse areas, and over 200 carparks for the team working from the new Avalon office.

The team also delivered more than 3 kilometres of drainage infrastructure, along with the precinct’s wash bay, refuelling bay and irrigation systems supporting thousands of plant, entering and exiting the facility every day.

Making the most of what was already there

When it came to building the precinct, the team looked for smarter ways to deliver the works without moving more material than necessary.

Through close collaboration and design optimisation, the team identified opportunities to reuse existing materials on site, reducing the need for imported material while creating a more efficient construction approach.

Sustainability was embedded throughout delivery, with more than 300,000 tonnes of recycled materials utilised across the works, including recycled concrete and quarry products supplied through our neighbours at Sycle.

The team also delivered a 12,000-litre dam to capture and reuse rainwater for dust suppression, helping make every drop count throughout construction.

Plenty of moving parts

Projects of this scale don’t come together without a few moving pieces.

Working alongside Incore Developments, builders and project stakeholders, Unyte navigated evolving requirements, tight timeframes and changing site conditions to keep the project tracking in the right direction.

Through proactive planning, open communication and a hands-on approach, the team delivered a precinct ready to support Symal Group’s people, plant, equipment and operations for years to come.

The Avalon Precinct now provides a purpose-built space supporting the group’s future growth, with Unyte proud to have played a key role in bringing it to life.
