Wamarra secured the DC trenching and site compound package at the Glenrowan West Solar Farm, strategically located adjacent to the Hume Freeway between Benalla and Wangaratta. Spanning 323 hectares, the solar farm features over 373,000 solar panels, meeting the energy needs of approximately 41,000 households while significantly reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 110,000 tonnes annually.
Their scope of work included trench installation for DC cables, covering various widths including 300mm, 600mm, 900mm, and 1200mm, along with 28 individual road crossings. Additionally, they handled backfilling, soil compaction, and testing, as well as cable hard cover and soft tape installation. Completion involved adherence to ITP/ITC requirements and punchlist management, alongside stockpiling excess excavated material and HV tie-ins to inverter pads.
Despite challenges such as trenching through winter and adapting to weather conditions, Wamarra successfully completed the project within the designated timeframe and budget. They also managed to secure variations for HV tie-ins and adjusted sequencing to accommodate weather forecasts. Importantly, their collaboration with UGL was strengthened, paving the way for potential future endeavors.
