It may be beautiful, but NSW’s Towamba Valley is prone to flooding. After heavy rainfalls, parts of Towamba and Burragate Roads become hazardous, and at times, impassable, impacting critical emergency response and community evacuation efforts.
Tasked with upgrading 22.4km of the roads, and minimising the impact of heavy rainfall on them, we performed draining works, pavement construction, remediation, and landscaping as part of our scope.
Our efforts were put to the test sooner than we expected. During construction three natural disasters were declared, calling on our teams to also engage in flood repair works. First-hand experience of flooding on-site gave the team further insights into the area, enabling them to engineer major improvements to road design life, at minimal cost to the client.
Our proactive, responsive work received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community, who we hope can face future rainy seasons with a little more confidence.
