This year was a special one for Symal as we came together to celebrate a decade of supporting the Fight Cancer Foundation’s Footy Colours Day. The celebrations were bigger than ever, raising an incredible $296,022 – smashing last year’s record and bringing our 10-year total to $971,213.
“We always strive to push what’s possible and this year’s Footy Colours Day campaign went above and beyond,” said Nick Loucaides, Symal Footy Colours Day Captain and Operations Manager.
“The energy, generosity and team spirit from across the Group and our partners were incredible. Every kick, every BBQ, every raffle showed what we can achieve when we come together!”
The Greenline Project on the Birrarung set the tone for the day. Symal and Wamarra, partners and supporters gathered for a lively BBQ, bright scarves and plenty of fun. The cross-Yarra footy kicking competition had everyone showing off their kicking skills, while Fight Cancer Foundation ambassadors - Richmond AFL player Maurice Rioli Jr and former NRL star Justin O’Neil - joined in the fun, signed memorabilia and posed for photos with the team.
Across the Eastern Freeway Upgrades, we teamed up with Laing O’Rourke, bringing the celebrations to five different sites. BBQs were sizzling, handball competitions sparked plenty of laughs and Symal footballs were flying across the worksites. These efforts alone raised over $31,000, proving that teamwork, friendly rivalry and a little competitive spirit can make a huge impact.
The excitement didn’t stop there. Across the Symal Group - Unyte, Sycle, Ascot Bin Hire, Locale and Searo - teams hosted BBQs, footy competitions and raffles at their own sites. Laughter, cheering and a little friendly rivalry filled the air, creating a true group-wide celebration of community and giving back.
Footy Colours Day is about more than BBQs, footballs and friendly rivalry - it’s about supporting kids and families facing cancer with hope, courage and tangible support. Every donation, raffle ticket and kick shows how much can be achieved when people come together for a meaningful cause.
After a decade of dedication, the numbers speak for themselves. But the real achievement lies with the people behind the figures: our team, subcontractors, clients, sponsors and passionate sideline supporters. Their energy, generosity and commitment made this record-breaking Footy Colours Day possible.
Footy Colours Day 2025 may be over, but the impact of everyone’s efforts will be felt by the kids and families supported by the Fight Cancer Foundation for years to come.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this record-breaking campaign one to remember.
