Through meaningful long-term employment, the team aren’t just building projects; they are building futures for themselves, their families and their communities. The journeys of Ryan, Tori, and Jake show what’s possible when people are empowered to lead their own futures.
Ryan White, Landscape and Concrete finisher
We recently caught up with Ryan White, one of our talented Landscape and Concrete finishers, on-site at the Wyndham Law Courts development in Werribee. Ryan shared how his journey with Wamarra has given him more than just a job – it’s given him the chance to provide for his family, spend more quality time with them and pass on his knowledge to others.
Ryan’s story is one of many across Wamarra where team members are achieving incredible things – securing long-term careers and supporting their families through a work-life balance.
This is what Wamarra is all about – real opportunities, real impact and a future where their mob can thrive.
Tori Kellett, Labourer
For Tori, stepping into civil construction wasn’t just about changing careers - it was about embracing a new challenge and proving to herself what’s possible. After five years in education, she felt the pull toward something different, something outside her comfort zone. That’s when she found Wamarra.
A proud Yorta Yorta and Juru woman, Tori made the leap into construction two years ago, and she hasn’t looked back since. “It’s one of the best things I’ve done,” she says. From day one, Wamarra provided the support she needed to transition smoothly into her new role.
Since joining, Tori has been given every opportunity to learn and grow. One of her biggest achievements being mastering machinery operations - spending six months on the North East Link project operating a roller. But it hasn’t stopped there. She’s also gained hands-on experience in surveying, understanding underground services and working with different machines, making every day on-site diverse and rewarding.
Beyond the technical skills, Wamarra has opened doors for Tori in ways she never expected. Through her work, she’s been able to travel, explore exciting projects and achieve personal milestones.
Jake Weston, Labourer
Jake, a proud Yorta Yorta and Wamba Wamba man, spent nine years working in abattoirs before deciding it was time for a change. Craving a new challenge and a more fulfilling career, he took a leap of faith into civil construction - joining the Wamarra team over six months ago.
Now working as a labourer on the Wyndham Law Courts project in Werribee, Jake has embraced the opportunity with both hands. His dedication, ambition and positive attitude have seen him thrive in his new role, making a real impact on site.
Jake’s journey is a powerful example of how meaningful employment can transform lives. His story embodies what Wamarra stands for - empowering individuals through sustainable careers and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to reach their full potential.
Success is measured not just in projects delivered, but in lives changed. Stories like Ryan’s, Tori’s and Jake’s show the power of opportunity, support and community. Through a commitment to cultural safety, career development and empowerment, Wamarra continues to build more than infrastructure – they’re building pathways to a better future. Because when people are given the chance to thrive, so do the communities around them.
