It’s a simple question - if you could trade jobs with anyone at Symal, who would it be? But as our leaders found out, the answer isn’t always as straightforward as it seems.
In episode four of Built to Last, we put this question to our leaders, and let’s just say, some of their answers were more surprising than others!
For some, swapping roles is about reconnecting with their roots. “I absolutely love what I do, but I’d love to be back on the tools for a few days,” says Joe Bartolo, Founder and Group Managing Director. “Coming from the tools, I still miss that. But I’d probably last about four weeks before wanting to come back!”
Ray Dando, Executive Director, and Geoff Trumbull, Chief Financial Officer, both set their sights on Sycle. “Sycle is exciting, groundbreaking, and good for the environment - it’s going to make a real difference to Australia,” says Ray. “Not that I’m skilled enough to take Ari’s job!” he laughs.
“I know there’s a few keen souls across the Group, to take my job but not yet” says Ari Karavias, Executive General Manager – the driver behind reinventing waste into new materials, driving innovation in the industry.
Then there are those who see a job swap as a chance to return to where it all began. “I’d take a site engineer’s role in a heartbeat,” says Dave Caserta. But Sandra Costanzo, General Counsel, isn’t convinced. “No, you would not! You have to go back to doing dockets, getting your boots dirty.” Dave stands firm, “100%! It would be great to reappreciate everything they do on the ground.”
We know that every role plays a crucial part in building something bigger. Whether in the office, on-site, or leading a game-changing initiative, our people are always committed to building better together.
