Symal has strengthened its infrastructure capability, achieving membership to the Australian Government’s Defence Industry Security Program (DISP).

Achieving the DISP membership strengthens Symal’s ability to deliver across Australia’s Defence and critical infrastructure sectors, combining the security capability required for highly sensitive environments with the agility of our self-performing model to deliver safely, efficiently and at scale.

The recognition also reflects the capability, systems and people we’ve continued to invest in as we grow our presence across Australia’s Defence sector. With the security foundations in place to support projects from day one, including third-party ISO accreditation and Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSV) clearances, DISP membership further strengthens our ability to operate in highly secure and complex project environments.

Group Defence Manager Rhys Hannan said the membership marks an important milestone for the business and where it’s heading.

“Securing DISP membership is a significant achievement for Symal and something the team has been working towards for a long time,” says Rhys.

“It shows that we have the governance, systems and capability required to operate in highly secure environments, while opening the door to new Defence and critical infrastructure opportunities across Australia.”

“We’ve built strong capability in the sector over recent years and this positions us to continue growing our role in delivering critical Defence infrastructure into the future.”

A key part of our journey is the ongoing partnership with recently DISP-accredited Wamarra. Through the Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP), stronger pathways are being created for First Nations participation across Defence infrastructure projects. Together, we’re delivering projects that create long-term value for industry, communities and our country.

Symal is currently supporting Head Contractor, Wamarra, on the $40 million expansion of the Myambat Explosive Ordnance Depot in the Hunter Valley, as well as previously partnering with Built on the Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence.

We’re also recognised as a Veteran Employer of Choice (VEC), the highest level of accreditation through the Veteran Employment Program, part of creating meaningful opportunities for veterans and building a workplace shaped by people who understand the Defence industry firsthand.

That depth of experience and capability continues to strengthen Symal’s role in delivering complex Defence and critical infrastructure projects across Australia.
