Ignite your career: Celebrating our 2025 graduates

At Symal, we believe the best way to learn is by getting on site, taking responsibility and backing yourself — with the right people behind you. That’s exactly what our Ignite Graduate Program is designed to do. 

As we reflect on 2025, we’re proud to celebrate our latest Ignite graduates — a cohort who stepped into real projects, worked alongside experienced teams and made their mark across the business. From day one, Ignite graduates are trusted to contribute, learn fast and take ownership of their development, gaining a genuine understanding of how civil construction is delivered at Symal. 

Ignite is an immersive, hands-on program that gives graduates exposure to live sites, planning, coordination and delivery. More importantly, it empowers them to Make It Yours — shaping their experience through real responsibility, meaningful work and strong relationships with the people building our projects. 

Elizabeth Battley, Site Engineer at Wamarra, credits Ignite with accelerating both her capability and confidence. 

“Being trusted to take on real responsibility onsite made a huge difference to my learning,” Elizabeth said. “Having strong support from my Project Manager and site team allowed me to step up quickly.” 

For Elizabeth, a defining moment came on the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade Project, where managing works alongside live traffic brought together programming, coordination and crew management — a clear reflection of the trust placed in Ignite graduates. 

Project Engineer at Unyte, Joseph Yu, highlights the strength of Symal’s people as a standout of the program. 

“Working alongside other young engineers, supervisors and managers helped me build a strong support network and learn how projects are delivered on the ground.” 

Joseph valued the balance between structured learning and hands-on delivery, with the Hawthorn Football Club project marking a turning point where training, experience and confidence came together.

Ignite doesn’t just prepare graduates for their next role — it sets them up for long-term careers at Symal. Our 2025 graduates have built strong foundations, taken ownership of their journey and proven what’s possible when you’re trusted early and supported well.
