Helping school students find their spark

  • Who we are

ecently, our Spark workplace experience program provided six high school students with hands-on experience in the world of construction.

Our supportive teams and businesses across the Symal Group banded together to offer students peek at the many facets of a career in construction, with exposure to engineering, safety, corporate services, site management and much more.

At an age where there are endless career options, there is nothing like giving our next-gen professionals a taste of our exhilarating industry.

All the students immensely enjoyed their time with us, making it a worthwhile experience. Here are some key takeouts.

  • Bodhi’s highlight was being exposed to the different departments across our group, especially seeing how our property development business Incore operates

  • Isaac enjoyed his time with the Estimating team but loved being out onsite

  • Hudson was shown the ropes by Contractors Project Engineer, Chloe Rymer

  • Archie met many people in the business and learnt a lot from the Wamarra engineers but found his time onsite the most amazing with Grampians and out at Sycle – overall the experience taught him how the “cogs that make the machine run”

  • Isaiah found out that a sitting down role wasn’t for him. He prefers more hands on work like operating a 20t excavator and enjoyed the friendly interactions with the community and workers

  • After spending time with the Marketing team, Lanah is now considering this as a future career path.

Our Spark program ignites students’ curiosity and passion for the engineering, construction, and business world. It’s an opportunity to empower students to open their eyes at the possibilities and for paths to emerge that may not have been considered.

We’ve been able to offer these young guns a transformative experience, insights into our company operations and the fast-paced work environment.

Symal is proud to play a significant role in shaping the future workforce. We hope to continue opening doors and inspiring young minds for their futures.
