Eastern Freeway: Burke to Tram

Symal is delivering the first stage of the Eastern Freeway Upgrades in alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Laing O’Rourke, Arcadis, and WSP.

This transformative project will benefit the community and commuters with modern express lanes, new traffic management technology and the initiation of Melbourne’s inaugural dedicated busway. A new interchange in Bulleen will provide a seamless connection with the North East Link tunnels – linking Melbourne’s east with the M80 Ring Road, reducing travel times by 35 minutes and taking 15,000 trucks a day off local roads.

The Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram upgrade includes extensive road and bridge enhancements, a new interchange linking the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, with noise protection meeting tough new traffic noise standards. Additionally, new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, enhancements to Koonung Creek Reserve, and revitalised wetlands and open spaces for the community are integral aspects of the project.

Over the past year, Symal has actively collaborated with the Victorian Government to refine project methodologies, emphasising the importance of every project as an opportunity to develop unique solutions.

With site preparation completed late last year, major works are now underway.
