Snowy 2.0 is an extension of NSW’s landmark civil Snowy Hydro project, a nation-building renewable energy project that will provide on-demand energy and storage for generations to come.
To support the efficient construction and maintenance of Snowy 2.0 assets, a factory at Cooma will produce 130,000 precast concrete segments to line a 27km tunnel. We were engaged to prepare a section of land to create a segment laydown for the factory.
Undertaking detailed earthworks for the precast facility, we were originally tasked with stripping topsoil, cutting and filling, constructing subsurface drainage, and installing a clean water diversion drain and sediment basin.
Impressed with our efforts, during the completion of bulk earthworks, we were also awarded additional packages worth $4.8m, including the construction of the site entry road and 1800,000m2 of flexible paving doubling the value of our original scope.
With up to 60 Symal team members on-site, mostly local workers, this was very much a team effort, and a project delivered by the community, for the community.
