Snowy Hydro 2.0 is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia that, combined with the existing Snowy Scheme, will underpin Australia’s transition to a renewable energy future. It involves linking two existing dams, Tantangara and Talbingo, through 27km of tunnels and building a new underground power station.
May 24, 2021, marked a milestone for our project team at Polo Flat as Practical Completion was reached on the Earthworks and Pavements contract for the Precast Yard. Our works involved the preparation of a section of land in Cooma NSW to create a segment laydown for the precast factory. Our team also worked alongside Snowy Monaro Regional Council to upgrade an intersection on a local council road.
Beginning in June 2020, the Polo Flat works were a key piece of infrastructure as part of the larger Snowy 2.0 pumped hydro project. The team performed tirelessly throughout winter, achieving early completion of earthworks which enabled the infrastructure for the precast segment manufacturing to commence. At the height of the project, the onsite Symal personnel peaked at 50-60, which was largely comprised of local workers.
Having built strong ties with our client – Future Generation, a joint venture between Webuild and Clough to deliver Snowy 2.0 – Symal has since carried out further work across the Snowy 2.0 project.
In the spirit of reconciliation, Symal acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and water.
