Truganina Education Precinct

Symal Contractors teamed up with valued client, Hutchinson Builders to assist in delivering a new full spectrum education precinct in Truganina. 

The 100,000 square meter Everton Road site houses Warreen Primary School Kindergarten, Warreen Primary School and the junior campus of Bemin Secondary School. Bemin Secondary Senior Campus is located close by in Morris Road and was also part of the project. 

The schools opened in 2024 and will cater to the rapidly growing populations of Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Our scope of work involved establishing environmental controls and measures, preparing the site strip and subgrade over 141,100 square meters, conducting bulk earthworks with 24,425 cubic meters cut and 23,250 cubic meters fill, preparing subgrade across 43,600 square meters, constructing detailed reinforced concrete footpaths over 27,950 square meters, and building an AFL oval spanning 19,700 square meters.

In addition to a large number of third-party contractors and trades to coordinate across two sites, the team successfully managed numerous latent conditions, including substantial volumes of in-situ rock and poor-quality subgrades. We worked closely with the design team to provide cost-effective solutions that mitigated the risk of time delays and the incursion of unreasonable costs. 

The use of feature landscaping elements such as curved in-situ colour concrete seating, decorative pathways and feature retaining walls is testament to our team’s agility and capability as a self-performing contractor.
