The Victorian Big Battery stands as Australia's largest lithium-ion battery, revolutionising the state's electricity grid to bolster renewable energy capacity and fortify power supply reliability in the face of soaring temperatures.
What sets this battery apart is its unparalleled flexibility, serving dual roles with unmatched efficiency. Firstly, it optimises power flow through the Victoria-New South Wales Interconnector, providing an additional 250 megawatts during peak demand seasons, bolstering reliability when it matters most.
Secondly, it acts as a crucial energy storage solution, charging during periods of abundant renewable energy and releasing it as needed, ensuring a seamless energy supply.
Symal's exceptional team completed this project a month ahead of schedule, compressing what was initially a tight seven-month program. Our scope of work encompassed topsoil removal, treatment of unsuitable material, bulk earthworks, roadway construction, concrete footings, trench installation, wetlands creation, and piling for Switchgear and Control Room buildings.
Upon completion of the project, Victorian households will see a reduction in their electricity bills. For every $1.00 spent on construction, the project will deliver $2.40 in benefits.
By helping Victoria reach its 50% renewable energy target by 2030, the Victorian Big Battery isn't just powering homes, it's powering progress.
