At Symal, we bring our values to every site. Setting up a strong culture on this project from the start was important with the mobilisation of trades increasing from 75 to over 1,000 workers.  

With tight deadlines and a construction site five times the size of the MCG, our team exceeded client expectations and accelerated the project by completing earthworks three months ahead of schedule.

As the self-performing contractor for this complex project, Symal delivered all civil and landscaping works including an external car park.  

Our safety and environmental controls are always paramount. Here’s a few examples. 

• In the trenches – excavating, bedding and backfilling – our interface management ensured the safety and productivity of the builder and all service trades. 
• Endangered species could have shut down the site, but with smart solutions we protected the Golden Sun Moths and Spiny Rice Flowers. 
• 90% of project materials were sourced locally from Australia and New Zealand. Our environmental sustainability initiatives included reusing wastewater, reducing truck movements, recycling materials and powering up with solar. 

The expansion of the prison precinct will accommodate 1248 inmates and was completed with our partner in crime John Holland and will serve the local justice sector into the future.
