Werribee Street Level Crossing Removal

A team effort, combining Unyte and Wamarra, both teams worked to complete the Werribee Level Crossing Removal.

Contracted by McConnell Dowell for Western Program Alliance (WPA), Unyte replaced redundant rail with pavement for a three-lane intersection. Their scope included early works such as pavement re-sheeting and concrete tasks, along with the removal of existing rail lines and subsequent earthworks. They also handled drainage systems, including stormwater and subsoil drainage, and executed a deep lift asphalt pavement installation, incorporating multiple layers for durability.

Despite challenges like managing existing services and strict timelines, Unyte successfully completed the project within a 192-hour window, meeting all specifications and adhering to VicRoads' standards.

Wamarra were engaged to deliver the Site Establishment Carpentry works and the final detailed landscaping works.

The project features included the design of temporary structure, covered walkways (740m2), a covered pre-start area (290m2), concrete paving (225m2), timber decking (675m2), access stairs and ramps and handrails.

After the construction of the viaduct and removal of the level crossing, the soft landscaping works commenced which included a skatepark surrounded by a forecourt and expansive garden beds and grassed area.

The wider scope of work covered topsoil installation, hydroseeding, footpath pouring, hardscape pavements, and street furniture installation.

Despite challenges including wet conditions and drainage issues in landscape design, Wamarra successfully coordinated with other trades and met tight project deadlines.

Collaboratively, Unyte and Wamarra successfully contributed to the completion of the Werribee Level Crossing Removal project, overcoming challenges and delivering high-quality results within specified timelines and standards.
