Built for digital infrastructure before the boom arrived

Australia’s data centre market is moving fast.

Cloud computing, AI and the growing demand for data storage are driving a huge wave of investment in digital infrastructure — and behind every data centre is a lot of very real infrastructure that needs to be delivered.

That’s where Symal comes in.

We’ve been delivering the civil, structural and in-ground works behind data centres for more than a decade, well before the current boom.

Today, that experience spans more than 18 individual packages across 11 data centre developments nationally. Our teams have delivered everything from earthworks, piling and remediation through to structural concrete, precast, drainage, in-ground services and public realm works.

It’s a big job. And there’s no room for things to fall out of sync.

As Cameron Healy, Executive General Manager, Symal Contractors puts it:

“Every digital infrastructure project comes down to one thing: certainty. The site needs to be ready, power needs to arrive when it’s needed and the program needs to be achieved. That’s where experience matters.”

More of the pieces, working together

Data centres aren’t your average construction project.

They run to tight commissioning dates, involve plenty of moving parts and bring together multiple contractors, interfaces and work packages. When one piece slips, it can have a knock-on effect across the whole program.

Symal’s self-performing model gives clients more capability under one roof, helping reduce interfaces and keep projects moving.

And that capability is continuing to expand.

Through Searo, the Group is adding electrical and high-voltage expertise to its offering, bringing even more of the infrastructure puzzle together.

As Cameron explains:

“What we’re seeing is clients looking for fewer interfaces and greater certainty. The more capability we can bring together, the simpler we can make delivery.”

Already in the game

The scale of the opportunity is growing, but digital infrastructure isn’t new territory for Symal.

During FY26, the Group worked across 15 active data centre packages with a combined contract value of more than $380 million, while securing further work through repeat clients and project expansions.

Seven new packages worth more than $60 million were also added during the year, with further opportunities progressing through the pipeline.

For Symal, that’s the advantage of being in the game before the boom.

The capability is established. The experience is there. And with civil, structural, in-ground and electrical expertise coming together, there are more ways to help clients get complex digital infrastructure projects moving.

The data centre market is growing. We’re already building what comes next.
