Powering the energy transition for more than a decade

Australia's energy transition is one of the largest infrastructure programs the country has ever undertaken.

Across the country, investment is accelerating in renewable generation, battery storage, substations and transmission infrastructure. The scale of the opportunity is significant, but for Symal, we've been in the mix for more than a decade.

From wind and solar farms to battery energy storage systems and substations, we’ve completed more than 35 energy projects and helped deliver around 10GW of generation and 3GWh of storage capacity.

For Matthew Gurney, Executive General Manager, Symal Infrastructure, that experience matters.

“This is not a new market for us. We’ve been in this market for over a decade and been in this market consistently.”

And we’re continuing to put that experience to work.

During FY26, Symal progressed projects across wind, solar, battery storage and transmission-related infrastructure, with around $500 million of energy work in hand across four states and approximately $1.4 billion of active ECI opportunities across solar, wind and BESS developments.

More power to the model

There’s plenty happening across the energy sector. But delivering these projects takes more than knowing where the market is heading.

It takes people, plant, technical capability and the ability to get stuck in and deliver.

That’s where Symal’s self-performing model comes into its own.

With one of the largest self-performing workforces in the civil balance-of-plant market, we can bring civil delivery, technical expertise and national mobilisation capability together — backed by relationships built through years of delivering in the sector.

And that capability is continuing to broaden.

Projects like the Salisbury Bioenergy Plant are expanding the Group’s experience into emerging areas of energy infrastructure.

Ready for what's next

The demand for new generation and storage is only increasing as Australia’s energy mix changes and existing generation retires.

Symal estimates the addressable market across generation and storage infrastructure alone exceeds $200 billion.

But for us, it’s not about chasing a new market.

It’s about doing more with capability we’ve spent more than a decade building.

As Matt says:

“Because of our blue-collar workforce and technical capability, I think we’re positioned like no other to really take advantage of that capability.”

The energy transition is a big job. We’re already doing our bit to power it.
