Built to last: Unexpected lessons

  • Who we are

In the construction industry, challenges aren’t just inevitable – they’re part of the journey. From unexpected weather to last-minute scope changes, every project comes with highs and lows. But at Symal, it’s how we navigate these moments that sets us apart.

In episode three of Built to last, our leaders reflect on the unexpected lessons they’ve learned along the way. One thing is clear – resilience, adaptability and teamwork are at the core of what we do. Our strength lies in our collective intelligence, our curiosity and our bravery to think differently.

“Sometimes you’re in situations where you think there’s no way out of this,” says Olivia Bartolo, Chief People and Culture Officer. “What I’ve learned with our people here at Symal is that when you put your minds together, there is always a way.”

If we say we’ll do it, we’ll do it – and we’ll find a way. Everyone is committed and proud to contribute to our performance. Steve Cornish, Chief of Strategic Operations, reflects,” I didn’t appreciate how bold the business was. We talk about Make It Yours – there’s a real desire to back yourself.”

Through it all, collaboration makes a difference. Dave Caserta, General Manager of Unyte, highlights the power of teamwork. “It’s amazing to see how the whole team comes together to solve the problem.” That’s what building better together is all about – one of our core values that’s ingrained in everything we do.

We’re constantly innovating, adapting, and pushing what’s possible. Challenges will come, but with the right people by your side, there’s always a way forward. With every obstacle, we gain something invaluable – unexpected lessons that continue to shape who we are.
